Switch to Digital Medical Records Raises Concerns, July 16th, 2010
In this interview Dr. Deborah Peel discusses a company, Practice Fusion, that offer doctors “free” electronic health records systems in exchange for selling their patients’ medical records. Many health technology corporations, insurers, all 55,000 US pharmacies, and many hospitals and providers sell data because it is so valuable. But the public doesn’t know health data is being sold. In 2009, the stimulus bill banned the sale of patient health information without consent. Have you been asked by your pharmacy or doctor if they can sell your prescriptions or medical records? Yet ‘smart’ technology could put patients in control of who sees and uses their health data. Tell Congress to restore your control over personal health information.
