Charter Communications Inc. (CHTR) announced Tuesday that it is suspending a pilot program in which it would have collected customers’ Web-surfing information as part of an enhancement to its high-speed Internet service.

Charter said some customers raised privacy questions about its venture with the third-party advertising company NebuAd. The pilot project would have aligned Web advertisements more closely to subscribers’ interests. Critics, including two members of Congress, raised questions about whether the new service violated privacy laws.
